Following Jesus
What is it mean?
Through faith in Jesus Christ, one can be saved from the eternal consequences of sin and receive eternal life with God in heaven. It is the cornerstone of the Christian faith and is available to anyone who accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Salvation is as easy as believing in your heart that Jesus died for your sin and wants to live in your heart.
Let’s walk through what the Bible says
The Bible shows us how we can be made right with God—how we can receive forgiveness and have a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. As we walk through this together, these are the key truths to understand.
-
Romans 3:23 (ESV)
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
Sin is anything that goes against God—things we think, say, or do that don’t line up with His standard, as well as the good we fail to do. The Bible makes it clear that every person has sinned, which means we all fall short of what God requires. Because of this, none of us can earn a right relationship with God on our own.
-
Romans 6:23 (ESV)
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Sin has a real consequence. It brings spiritual death, which means separation from God. This is something we cannot fix by trying harder or doing better. No amount of good works can remove the problem of sin or restore our relationship with God.
-
Romans 5:8 (ESV)
“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Even though we are sinners, God loves us and made a way for us to be forgiven. Jesus Christ came and took our place by dying on the cross for our sins. This is how God deals with sin—justice is satisfied, and at the same time, His love is shown in a powerful way.
-
Romans 10:9–10 (ESV)
“because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”
Salvation is not something we earn—it is something we receive. The Bible says we are saved when we trust in Jesus, believe He rose from the dead, and turn to Him as Lord. This is a personal response that comes from the heart and leads to a changed life.
-
Romans 10:13 (ESV)
“For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”
God’s offer of salvation is open to everyone. No matter your past, background, or story, you can call on Jesus and receive forgiveness. God invites us to come to Him in faith and receive the gift of eternal life.
Your Next Step
If you understand what you’ve just read and want to respond to God, you can do that right now. This isn’t about saying the perfect words—it’s about turning your heart toward Jesus, trusting Him, and asking Him to forgive you and lead your life.
You can pray something like this:
“God, I know that I have sinned and I need You. I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose again. I want to turn away from my sin and I choose to trust You. I ask You to forgive me, save me, and lead my life. I want to follow You. Amen.”
